Forrest H. Kline

Forrest H. Kline, 89, of Austin passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 12, 2007. He was born on October 25, 1917 in Gregory, Texas to William A. and Martha Hobbs Kline. Mr. Kline attended Texas Christian University and graduated with a Bachelor's Degree. While attending T.C.U. he played football in the very first Cotton Bowl in 1937 and was the starting Guard for the 1938 National Championship team. He played in the 1939 Sugar Bowl, made All-Southwest Conference and was voted Honorable Mention All American. He was also drafted to play professional football but declined to begin teaching and coaching. He later obtained his Master's Degree from the University of Texas. In 2003 he was elected to the T.C.U. Football Hall of Fame. In 1939 he began teaching biology and coaching in Shamrock, TX, where he met the love of his life Freda Nell Holmes, to whom he married on October 24, 1942. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force until 1945 as an Instructor for pilots in inclement weather. He then moved to Austin in 1949 to teach and coach and later opened Crockett High School as the Principal before retiring in 1983. Mr. Kline was preceded in death by his loving wife Freda Holmes Kline, his parents, three sisters and one brother. He is survived by his son, David F. Kline and wife Julie of Dallas, TX; daughter, Martha Grace and husband Ross Montgomery of Moran, TX; son, Dan H. Kline and wife Roxanne of Austin; brother, George Kline of Dallas; eight grandchildren and many other loving family members and friends. The family will receive friends on Saturday, April 14, 2007 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 N. Lamar Blvd. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, April 15, 2007 at 3:30 p.m. in the Colonial Chapel of Cook-Walden Funeral Home with interment following in the Austin Memorial Park Cemetery. Proudly serving as Pallbearers will be Stephen and Kyle Kline, Ross and Ryan Montgomery, Chuck Harthausen and Brad Kline. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Forrest Kline Scholarship Fund, c/o the Counselors of Crockett High School, the American Heart Association, P.O.
